Mission: Calgary’s Foodie Playground

Mission has always been one of my favourite corners of Calgary. Growing up, I spent a lot of time here going to high school at St. Mary’s, and even now you can usually find me wandering the streets most weekends.

It’s a neighbourhood that doesn’t need to try too hard. The energy comes from the streets themselves -the mix of historic homes, modern apartments, and the constant hum of people grabbing coffee, meeting friends, or heading out for dinner.

Food is a huge part of Mission’s vibe. Purple Perk Café is my go-to for a casual coffee or brunch, always buzzing with students, locals, and friends catching up. Mercato is a little Italian escape with fresh pasta and a lively vibe, perfect for a midday lunch. And Aida’s—if you haven’t tried the muhammara there, consider this your sign. It’s one of those flavours that sticks with you. Earls Tin Palace is a classic staple, reliable for everything from happy hour to late-night dinners.

Mission isn’t just about food. The neighbourhood has a great mix of boutiques, specialty shops, and everyday conveniences. Whether you’re popping into a local shop for a gift, wandering vintage stores, or grabbing a last-minute home essential, there’s always something to discover.

With its mix of apartment living, historic charm, and walkable streets, Mission is perfect for anyone who wants the energy of downtown Calgary within reach. You can bump into people you know, try something new every weekend, and still feel like part of the community.
